Trinity Roofing Sussex
Chimney Repairs
Chimney repairs, repointing and rebuilds across Worthing and Sussex, including the leadwork that most leaks actually come from.
What’s Included
Everything covered by our chimney repairs work
Repointing
Perished mortar raked back and repointed in a mix suited to the brick. Coastal exposure along this stretch is hard on chimney mortar and it is usually the first thing to go.
Partial and full rebuilds
Where the stack has moved, spalled or cracked beyond repointing, we take it down to a sound course and rebuild, reusing the original brick where it is good enough to keep the look right.
Lead flashing and soakers
The junction between stack and roof is the single most common leak point on a British house. Ours is dressed and welded properly, in the right code of lead, not sealed with mastic.
Flaunching and pot replacement
Cracked flaunching lets water straight into the stack. Recast properly, with pots reseated or replaced, and capped or cowled where a flue is no longer in use.
Redundant stack removal
Where a chimney is no longer used and no longer wanted, it can be taken down and the roof made good across the opening, properly closed up rather than boarded over.
How It Works
How we handle chimney repairs
-
01
Inspection from the roof
Chimney problems are almost impossible to judge from ground level. We get up to it, photograph what we find, and show you the actual condition of the mortar, flaunching and flashing.
-
02
Repair or rebuild, decided honestly
Repointing is far cheaper than a rebuild, and we will always tell you when it is enough. We will also tell you plainly when it is not, because repointing a stack that has already shifted is money spent twice.
-
03
Access, work, and make good
Scaffold or tower access as the job requires, the work carried out, the surrounding roof covering reinstated, and the site cleared. Backed by our workmanship guarantee like everything else we do.

Common Questions
Chimney Repairs FAQs
Straight answers before you book. If there’s anything else, our team is a phone call away.
My chimney is not used any more. Do I still need to maintain it?
Yes, and unused stacks are often in the worst condition precisely because nobody looks at them. A disused chimney still sheds water into the roof if the flaunching cracks or the flashing fails, and a capped or cowled stack still needs ventilation to stop damp building up inside it. It is usually cheaper to cap it properly than to keep chasing the damp it causes.
How do I know if it needs repointing or rebuilding?
Crumbling mortar you can pick out with a finger, but brickwork that is still square and sound, means repointing. Bricks that are spalling and flaking, visible lean, or stepped cracking through the courses means the stack has moved and rebuilding is the honest answer. We will show you photographs either way rather than asking you to take it on trust.
Is the leak definitely the chimney?
Not always, but it is the first place we look. Stains on a ceiling near a chimney breast are just as often failed flashing, a cracked valley alongside the stack, or condensation in a poorly ventilated loft. Tracing it properly is part of the visit, and we would rather find out it is a £150 flashing repair than sell you a rebuild you did not need.
