Trinity Roofing Sussex
Leadwork
Certified leadwork across Sussex: valleys, chimney flashings, bay roofs, parapets and dormers, dressed and welded to code.
What’s Included
Everything covered by our leadwork work
Lead valleys
Formed and laid in the correct code and length, with proper laps and expansion allowance. Over-long single pieces are the most common cause of split valleys, and they split every time.
Chimney flashings, soakers and aprons
Stepped flashing chased into the joint, soakers interleaved with the tiles, apron dressed properly. The way it was always meant to be done, and the reason the junction stays dry.
Bay and porch roofs
Traditional lead bay roofs, common right across Worthing and Hove's Victorian and Edwardian stock, formed and welded to last decades rather than patched season to season.
Parapets, gutters and box gutters
Lead-lined parapet and box gutters formed with proper falls, drips and welded corners: the details that separate a lead gutter that lasts from one that ponds and splits.
Certified lead welding
Lead welding certification is held across the team. Welded joints where welded joints belong, rather than solder, sealant or a folded overlap and optimism.
How It Works
How we handle leadwork
-
01
Assess and specify the code
Lead comes in codes for a reason: too thin splits, unnecessarily thick costs money for nothing. We specify the right code and the right piece lengths for the detail in question.
-
02
Form and fit
Lead cut, bossed or welded and dressed on site to the actual shape of your roof, because no two chimneys or bays are quite the same as the drawing.
-
03
Patinate and protect
New lead treated with patination oil before we leave, which stops the white carbonate staining that otherwise runs down tiles and brickwork in the first few weeks.

Common Questions
Leadwork FAQs
Straight answers before you book. If there’s anything else, our team is a phone call away.
Why not use a cheaper lead alternative?
There are decent flashing alternatives and they have their place, particularly on low-value or short-life details. But on a chimney or a valley that you want to forget about for thirty years, properly welded lead in the right code is still the best material available and it is not close. Where an alternative genuinely makes sense we will say so.
Is lead theft a concern?
Less than it was, but it still happens on churches and larger commercial roofs. On a domestic chimney flashing or bay roof it is rare. If you are concerned, lead can be security-marked, and we are happy to talk through what is worth doing on your property.
My new lead has gone white and streaky. Is it faulty?
No. That is lead carbonate, and it forms on new lead that has not been patinated or that has weathered before the oil was applied. It is cosmetic and it washes off. We apply patination oil as standard precisely to stop it running down and staining the tiles and brickwork below.
