Trinity Roofing Sussex

Sandtoft In-Roof Solar

Sandtoft in-roof solar for Sussex homes: panels that sit flush within the roof covering, weathertight and considerably better looking than a bolt-on array.

Flush in-roof solar array integrated into a dark grey tiled roof

What’s Included

Everything covered by our sandtoft in-roof solar work

Panels integrated into the roof plane

The array replaces the tiles rather than sitting on brackets above them, so it finishes flush with the surrounding covering instead of standing proud of it.

Sandtoft in-roof system

A purpose-made system with its own flashing kit and drainage tray, engineered to weather as part of the roof rather than adapted from a rooftop mounting kit.

Fitted by roofers

In-roof solar is a roofing detail with panels in it. The weathertightness comes from how the tray, flashings and surrounding tiles are set, which is our trade, not an afterthought bolted onto an electrical job.

Ideal alongside a re-roof

By far the most cost-effective time to fit in-roof solar is while the covering is already off and the scaffold is already up. If a re-roof is on the cards, it is worth deciding now.

New builds and retrofits

Designed into a new roof from the start, or retrofitted into an existing one by removing the tiles across the array area and forming the opening properly.

How It Works

How we handle sandtoft in-roof solar

  1. 01

    Check the roof suits it

Orientation, pitch, shading and the condition of the existing covering all matter. We will tell you honestly if your roof is a poor candidate rather than selling you an array that will underperform.

  2. 02

    Coordinate with your electrician

We handle the roofing side: the tray, flashings, opening and covering. The electrical connection and certification is carried out by a qualified electrician, and we will work alongside yours or point you to one.

  3. 03

Form the opening and fit the system

Tiles removed across the array area, the Sandtoft tray and flashing kit installed to the manufacturer's detail, panels set, and the surrounding covering closed back in.

  4. 04

    Weathertightness check

The whole perimeter is checked and signed off as a roofing detail before we leave, because that is the part that has to keep working for the next twenty-five years.

Common Questions

Sandtoft In-Roof Solar FAQs

Two things. It looks considerably better: the array sits flush in the roof plane rather than standing proud on brackets, which matters a great deal on a period property or anywhere with a planning sensitivity. And there are no roof penetrations from mounting brackets, because the system replaces the covering rather than being fixed through it.

No, and you should be wary of any roofer who says they do. We install the roofing side (tray, flashings, opening and covering), and a qualified electrician carries out the connection, testing and certification. We are happy to coordinate with yours or recommend someone we work with regularly.

Usually, yes. It means lifting the tiles across the array area and forming the opening properly, so it is more involved than bolting an array on top. If your covering is nearing the end of its life anyway, doing both together is far better value than doing them two years apart.
